Roberta Duggan says she was born to do customer service. As the Assistant Director of the HSU Bookstore, she has infinite opportunities to help as many students as she can on any given day.
"I enjoy helping students find their way," says Roberta. "The most rewarding part is helping students and their families who are first time visitors find what they need." Roberta says the students are her favorite part of working at HSU. "Working with college students is the best," Roberta says. "They are in such an exciting time of life and they have a passion that they bring to whatever they're working on."
Roberta is a music lover, which led her to become an accomplished flute player and singer. She majored in music while she was an HSU student and currently sings alto in a choir. A little known fact about her is that she was in the Humboldt Light Opera Company's very first performance in 1973 of "Amahl and the Night Visitors."
On her days off, Roberta can be found hiking the Arcata Marsh or other trails around Arcata and Humboldt County. "I'm a nature girl," says Roberta. "Some of my favorite trails are at Prairie Creek, the Ossagon Trail and Elk Head Bluff. College Cove is the best for stairs."
After completing her studies here, she worked in sales and marketing. She later moved to New York for a while to work in the publishing industry but her heart brought her back to Humboldt County. "I'm a California girl and Arcata is my home," she says. "I couldn't imagine living anywhere else."
