California Fires - Support and Information

November 15, 2018

Campus Community,

Many areas of California are continuing to struggle with major fires, while others are experiencing dangerous air quality due to the smoke. Some members of our campus community or their family members have been directly affected, and Humboldt State University is offering support to students, faculty, and staff.

To access support or assistance, students may contact the Dean of Students Office at 707.826.3504. Students may also contact Counseling & Psychological Services at 707.826.3236. Staff or faculty seeking additional support may utilize the Employee Assistance Program at 707.443.7358.

If you are travelling during the upcoming Fall Break, please take precautions. Stay current with news, including CAL FIRE updates, and check resources like Caltrans for traffic conditions and the National Weather Service.

HSU has offered assistance to other CSU campuses that have been most impacted, including our neighbors at CSU Chico and Sonoma State University. The Chico community and surrounding area face a difficult recovery once the fires are contained, and we are keeping them in our thoughts.

If you are looking for a way you can personally help, two CSU campuses have begun accepting donations to support their campus community.

Also, the CSU is accommodating students who are applying for the Fall 2019 semester but have been affected by the fires. If you know a student in this situation, please share this with them. Information for CSU applicants affected by wildfires.

Finally, thank you to the first responders from across the state and nation who have responded to these recent fires. They have been working tirelessly to save lives and protect communities, and we are very grateful for their service.
