Congratulations to Biology Major Christopher Mendoza!

September 25, 2014

Christopher Mendoza, Cell/Molec Biology student, Dr. Jacob Varkey advisor, is the honorary first recipient of the Humboldt State University Veteran Meritorious Award. He is being given the award for "his work as a biologist and his unwavering commitment to education".  The award will be bestowed during the half time program at this Saturday's HSU Football game, when Chris will give a speech to the entire crowd.

Christopher has worked for 2.5 years in Dr. Amy Sprowles' research lab looking at the expression of Oct-4 in 293T cells and mouse embryonic stem cells to understand its role in organismal development and cancer.

This award is the first of many in the years to come, where in collaboration with the VETS office, we will honor a Veteran for his/her commitment to his/her education, and career, his/her role in the HSU Family and their support of veterans, service members and dependents on campus. And most of all his service to our country and freedom.

CONGRATULATIONS!!
