Eleven Lumberjacks Named to CCAA Winter All-Academic Team

SAN RAMON, Calif. – Humboldt State tied Sonoma State with a conference-high 11 student-athletes selected to the 2017-18 California Collegiate Athletic Association Winter All-Academic Team announced Monday evening.

“I am very excited to see the recognition of these student-athletes for their hard work and achievements,” said interim Athletic Director Duncan Robins. “This is yet another example of Humboldt excellence and leadership in the CCAA. Lumberjacks achieve on the court and in the classroom, period.”

Eight members of the HSU women’s basketball team and three from the men’s squad were selected to the All-Academic Team. Teammates Riann Thayer and Kindall Murie earned the honor for the fourth time in their Green and Gold careers. Jovanah Arrington, Colin Caslick, Ashlynn Cox, Madeline Hatch, Davasyia Hagger, Merritt Schoenhofer, Will Taylor, Tyra Turner and Allison Zalin joined Thayer and Murie as HSU representatives.

In order to earn CCAA All-Academic team honors, a student-athlete must be of sophomore athletic standing or higher, and have a 3.3 cumulative GPA or better while competing in a Conference-sponsored sport in that season.

The CCAA Winter All-Academic Team consists of eligible student-athletes who compete in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball. A total of 87 men and women from across the CCAA’s 13 member institutions have been honored for their efforts in the classroom for the winter of 2017-18.
