Emotional Support Sessions for Faculty and Staff

April 24, 2017

Many staff and faculty have been impacted by the death of our student, David "DJ" Josiah Lawson, and as they continue to provide emotional and physical support to our students, some have requested support for themselves.

As a result, we will hold two group sessions for staff and faculty who would like to gather and process their feelings - grief, anxiety, compassion fatigue, anger.  The sessions will be facilitated by our visiting CAPS counselors Paulette Theresa from Cal State Northridge, and Lightfoot Wilhite from San Francisco State, who are experienced in trauma and social justice work.  The sessions will be held in the University Center Banquet Room (UCBR) as follows:

  • Tuesday, April 25, 4:00-6:00 – for staff and faculty of color
  • Wednesday, April 26, 3:00-5:00 – for all impacted staff and faculty

There will also be a group session for students on Wednesday, 11:00-1:00; additional student sessions may be scheduled as needed.

Please spread the word to all who might benefit from these opportunities to come together in support of each other, and see the attached flyer for more information about the on-campus mental health services available for students.
