Five Lumberjacks Collect 2017 CRCA Scholar Athlete Awards

ARCATA, Calif. – Five Humboldt State rowers earned 2017 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar Athlete Awards. Kyra Anderson, Carolyn Monette, Ciera Lathe, Diana Ortega and Abby Pratt collected the prestigious academic honors.

“We are so proud of these ladies,” said Head Coach Robin Meiggs. “All of these young women attend school full time, participate in collegiate rowing and work jobs! They are remarkable student-athletes.”

In order to be eligible for the award a student-athlete must be in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility; have met all eligibility rules for the 2017 season; rowed in a 75 percent of spring races or in a regional conference event; and the head coach must be in good standing with the CRCA. Each rower also had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career.

Anderson is majoring in marine biology, while Monette and Lathe are pursuing psychology degrees. Ortega is a criminology and Spanish major, and Pratt is majoring in biology.

HSU ranked fifth nationally in the final NCAA Division II CRCA/US Rowing poll.
