Gmail Introduces Confidential Mode

July 17, 2019

Gmail's new confidential mode gives you information rights management controls right in your emails by allowing senders to create expiration dates and revoke previously sent messages. Senders can also require additional authentication via text message to view an email, thus protecting data even if a recipient's email account has been hacked. Confidential messages and their attachments cannot be forwarded, copied, printed or downloaded.

Please note that confidential mode still allows HSU to fulfill its legal requirements as a state agency in terms of providing sent messages that fall under Freedom of Information Act, Public Records Act, or litigation hold requests.

Learn more about how to send and open confidential emails in this Google Help Center article.
