Heavy Rains This Weekend - Be Ready!

October 13, 2016

The National Weather Service is reporting that we are in for some nasty weather this weekend (beginning 10/13/16 and ending 10/16/16) - including heavy rains throughout the weekend, a high surf advisory, and a wind advisory. Storms like this are fairly common here in Humboldt, but it's still important that we take a few steps to be prepared, especially if you're new to the area.

First, do try to keep an eye on the weather, and if you are traveling anywhere, check with CalTrans to make sure road conditions are going to be OK.

Next, especially if you don't have a lot of experience, be careful on the roads. Check out this site for some tips on driving in the rain.

Finally, now is a good time to make sure you have a proper disaster kit in case the power gets knocked out. Check out this site for info on what you should have in your kit at home, and in your car.

If you want more information on disaster response or preparedness, be sure to follow HSU Emergency Management on Twitter - @humboldtstateem

We also have a disaster preparedness class coming up - 10/20 at 12:00PM in SBS 179.

Like we said, storms like this are fairly common in Humboldt, but it's still important we take them seriously. Everyone have a safe and (hopefully) dry weekend!
