January 22, 2018

Please join us for the 2nd annual HSU Zero Waste Conference, February 9th and 10th! This year’s theme is “Beyond Barriers: Imagining Our Zero Waste Future” to take on interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability. The conference is organized by the Waste Reduction & Resource Awareness Program (WRRAP).

Friday, February 9th kicks off at 10am with “Tinker Time,” a series of hands-on, interactive bicycling and zero waste activities all day on the UC Quad, hosted by Moon Cycles, SCRAP Humboldt, CCAT and ROSE. At 5:30pm attend the FREE and wildly popular Zero Waste Banquet in the Kate Buchanan Room. Keynote speakers at the banquet will be Arcata Mayor Sofia Pereira and US EPA Food Recovery Specialist André Villaseñor. After the banquet, stay for an exclusive screening of the critically acclaimed film, “Wasted: The Story of Food Waste”.

Saturday, starting at 10am, the day will be filled with panels, workshops and vibrant discussions focusing on zero waste, environmental justice and systems change. Keynote speakers on Saturday are representatives of SF Environment’s Zero Waste program (at 2pm) and Operation Yurok member and Ph.D. candidate Kaitlin Reed (at 6pm). All Saturday events take place in the Kate Buchanan Room.
