HSU'S PHONE SYSTEM GETS A MAJOR UPGRADE

November 3, 2016

ITS recently completed a major overhaul of the entire HSU telecommunications and networking infrastructure, both on and off campus. More than 2000 phone lines were migrated and over 400 phones upgraded by a five-person team over the past two years - and barely anyone even noticed!

The University expects to see three significant areas of benefit from this project:

  • The new equipment will enable us to establish our own Voice over IP (VoIP), or internet, telephony system in the future, which will give us a lot more flexibility to support mobile users, as well as reducing maintenance and calling costs
  • Our first VoIP service is already in place at the Telonicher Lab
  • The nature of the upgrade means that we will see much lower energy usage, in support of the University's strategic plan
