Humboldt State Softball Earns Top Seed for NCAA West Regionals

ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State softball has been named the top seed in the west for this week's NCAA Regional Tournament, as announced on Monday morning's NCAA DII Softball Championship Selection Show. The Lumberjacks posted a regional-best 45-5-1 record in 2016 and will welcome four-seed Chico State (38-14), five-seed California Baptist (41-11) and eight-seed Sonoma State (33-22-1) to the North Coast.

The other half of the West Regional bracket features two-seed Central Washington (38-14), three-seed Azusa Pacific (38-10), six-seed UC San Diego (36-19) and seven-seed Dixie State (36-13-1). Azusa Pacific will host this regional.

Regional games begin Thursday, May 5 and continue through the Championship Game on Saturday, May 7.

Chico State will play Cal Baptist in the opening game in the HSU regional (12:30 p.m.), followed by the matchup with Sonoma State versus the Lumberjacks at 3 p.m.

Friday's action opens with a 10 a.m. winner's game, followed by the first elimination game at 12:30 p.m. The team that advances out of the elimination game will remain on the field and play the loser of the day's first game for a right to advance to Saturday's Championship Game.

A noon start has been announced for Saturday's Championship Game, with a second game immediately following if necessary.

The winner of the HSU Regional will advance to the Super Regional to play the winner of Azusa Pacific's West Regional.

Individual tickets and tournament passes will be available for purchase Thursday at the HSU Softball Field. The three-day tournament pass costs $18 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Individual game tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
