August 15, 2016

I am delighted to announce that Dr. Chris Hopper has accepted appointment to the position of Interim Dean of the College of Professional Studies. Dr. Hopper’s appointment begins on August 15, 2016.

Chris joined HSU in 1980 as an assistant professor of health and physical education. During his distinguished career, Chris has served in a variety of administrative positions at HSU. Chris also served five years as coach of the men’s soccer team. Recently, he served as the Department Chair of Kinesiology and Recreation Administration. Previously, he served as Program Chair of Liberal Studies/Elementary Education, Associate Dean for the College of Professional Studies and Dean of Research, Graduate Studies and International Programs.

In addition to his administrative contributions, Dr. Hopper has been a successful scholar and grant writer to support programs at Humboldt. His current externally-funded projects include a professional development program in mathematics for K-6 teachers funded by the California Department of Education and a professional preparation program in adapted physical education funded by the United States Department of Education. Chris has written six books and published his research on children’s health and fitness in peer-reviewed journals. Chris was selected as the HSU Scholar of the Year at 2014-2015.

I am grateful to Chris for his willingness to serve as Interim Dean and provide leadership during this transitional period. I look forward to working with the entire CPS community in the upcoming academic year to identify the next dean of the college.

Sincerely,

Dr. Alex Enyedi
