Mathematics Colloquium ~ December 11

December 8, 2014
Hello, Math Students and all interested parties:

Please join us for the weekly Mathematics Colloquium this Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 4 p.m. BSS 204.
The talk is titled: Matrix Factorization with special guest speaker Dr. Andrew Conner, Professor of Mathematics, Saint Mary's College.
Factoring - expressing a single mathematical object as a product of other objects - is among the most basic notions in mathematics. Yet factoring can be quite difficult in practice. In linear algebra, fundamental processes such as row reduction and diagonalization can be framed as methods for factoring matrices. These techniques are often applied to matrices with rational, real, or complex entries.

Don't forget coffee, tea and goodies at the Pre-Colloquium Tea at 3:30 in the 3rd Floor Open Area in the BSS building. For the complete abstract, please go to
