Mathematics Colloquium ~ February 25

February 24, 2016

Hello, Math Students and all interested parties:

Please join us for the weekly Mathematics Colloquium “From the Abacus to the iPhone” with John Martin, Santa Rosa Junior College.

Thursday, February 25, 2016
Behavioral and Social Sciences Building Room 166, 4 p.m.

Not really! It would be foolish to try to cover 5000 years of history in a 50-minute lecture. Instead, Dr. Martin will focus on an important link in the chain between these two inventions that was forged during the seventeenth century; the development of the mechanical calculator.

John Martin is an HSU mathematics alumnus. He teaches mathematics at Santa Rosa Junior College In 2010 John won the Poyla award for an article that he wrote on the cycloid for the College Mathematics Journal.

Don't forget coffee, tea and goodies at the Pre-Colloquium Tea at 3:30 in the 3rd Floor Open Area in the BSS building. For the complete abstract, please go to
