New Phishing Attack in Circulation

March 16, 2017

In addition to the usual tax-season scams we warned about last month, a new and sophisticated phish has appeared on the CSU scene. The Chancellor’s Office let us know that one CSU campus has seen an attack using an actual email previously sent out by the president as a template. While we have not (yet) seen this particular attack here at HSU, it is a timely reminder to all of us that unexpected attachments should not be opened without checking with the sender, and no trusted entity – HSU, the IRS, or any other government body – will ask for your user credentials or other personally identifiable information by email.

If you have any questions or concerns about security, please don’t hesitate to contact the Information Security Office at x3815.
