Open Forum: Making a More Inclusive and Safer Community

November 15, 2016

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff of Humboldt State,

Over the past week, we've witnessed a sharp increase in hate attacks across the country against persons of color, Muslims, LGBTQ and gender non-conforming individuals. Many people in our community have been deeply and directly affected, and we're all struggling to find ways to address a growing wave of intolerance, hate, and violence.

In an effort to come together as a community and to collectively develop short and long-term strategies to prevent and counter incidents of hate and violence both on and off campus, we're hosting a forum this Thursday, November 17 at 2:30-4:00p in the Great Hall. Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to attend and share their experiences and insights. As the main focus, breakout groups will be charged to identify concrete, tangible actions to make our community—both on and off campus—more inclusive and our environment safer.
