REDUCTIONS IN REDWOOD BOWL TRACK USE

February 24, 2016

Facilities Management has been experiencing increasing maintenance and repair issues associated with the track surface in the Redwood Bowl due to it being past its functional life. While we have frequently encountered these types of issues in recent years, this winter has been particularly hard on the track surface and firmly indicates it needs to be replaced.

Replacement will require full design and permitting project after which it must be competitively bid for implementation. While design work will start soon, due to the amount of time this phase takes, the project will miss the summer 2016 construction season. Therefore, the entire project will be using the approach to “make it last” for another year so that we can implement a track construction project in summer 2017.

Users of the track will notice barricades installed on the track starting February 24, 2016 to prevent daily use of lanes 1-3, which have the most wear.  Specific user groups have been informed of the restrictions and how they are to use the facility for their activities.

Facilities Management regrets the inconvenience this may create and appreciates everyone’s cooperation with compliance until the track is replaced.  For more information, see the full text of a detailed memo available below as a PDF.
