Spring Break Travelers - 101 Closed Near Leggett

March 10, 2017

Due to a rockslide covering both lanes, Highway 101 has been completely closed approximately 6 miles north of Leggett in Mendocino County as of 6:30PM last night (3/9). As of 8:00AM this morning, crews will be evaluating the slide and will have an update and an estimate for the reopening of 101 shortly.

For those of you planning on traveling home via 101 south for Spring Break, please check the CalTrans website prior to traveling for up to date information: http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi

If 101 remains closed for the weekend, it is advised travelers use 299 east to I5 south. Although 299 is currently closed (local traffic only) due to a slide near Big Bar, it will be open to all traffic from 5:30AM Sunday to 7:30AM Monday, with approximately 30 minute delays expected.

As always, when traveling, also be sure to check the weather  via the National Weather Service: http://www.weather.gov/

It is also always a good idea to carry extra food, water, and emergency supplies when traveling: http://www.dmv.org/how-to-guides/emergency-kit.php
