SAN RAMON, Calif. –
Humboldt State junior guard Tyra Turner was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon.

"I'm very happy for Tyra as I feel this was well deserved," said HSU Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "She was extremely efficient on both ends of the floor and did a tremendous job of controlling both games."

Turner led the Lumberjacks to their second and third consecutive victories with a pair of spectacular performances last week. She averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 steals, 3.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds in wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and Stanislaus State. Turner scored a team-high 18 points and swiped a season-best six steals Thursday and followed the performance with 15 points, five assists and four steals versus the Warriors.

The San Bernardino, Calif., native leads the CCAA with 16 steals against conference opponents and is averaging 4.3 assists per game, which is good for second best.

HSU hosts Chico State Saturday in Lumberjack Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available at HSUJacks.com/tickets and HSU students, faculty and staff receive free admission with campus ID.
