[Updated] CalTrans Reopens 101 After Closure

March 10, 2017

Update as of 12:30 p.m.—Caltrans has reopened US 101 about 6 miles north of Leggett with one-way traffic control. Expect 20-30 minute delays after the long queue of vehicles clears through over the next hour or so. The road will remain one-way until further notice.

Due to a slide covering both lanes, U.S. Highway 101 has been completely closed approximately 6 miles north of Leggett in Mendocino County as of 6:30 p.m. last night, March 9. As of 8:00 a.m. this morning, crews will be evaluating the slide and will have an update on an estimate for the reopening of 101 shortly.

For those of you planning on traveling home via 101 south during Spring Break, please check the CalTrans website prior to traveling for up to date information: http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi

If 101 remains closed for the weekend, it is advised travelers use 299 east to I5 south. Although 299 is currently closed (local traffic only) due to a slide near Big Bar, it will be open to all traffic from 5:30 a.m. Sunday to 7:30 a.m. Monday, with approximately 30 minute delays expected.

As always, when traveling, also be sure to check the weather  via the National Weather Service: http://www.weather.gov/

It is also always a good idea to carry extra food, water, and emergency supplies when traveling: http://www.dmv.org/how-to-guides/emergency-kit.php.
