Vice President Craig Wruck to Retire From HSU

March 13, 2019

To the University community:

I am writing to share the news that Craig Wruck, who has served as Vice President for University Advancement and Executive Director of the HSU Advancement Foundation since 2012, has announced his plan to retire from Humboldt State University in May. I want to thank Craig for his service and enormous contributions to HSU.

During his nearly seven years here, Craig has worked to develop a strong Board of Directors for the HSU Advancement Foundation, with clear guidelines and practices for governance. Because of his work, HSU was a national leader in developing the inclusive model of "Forever Humboldt." He has been a key player in developing and supporting the Equity Alliance of the North Coast and Equity Arcata. The Arcata City Council appointed Craig to the Arcata Economic Development Committee in 2013, and he has served as its chair since 2017. Craig's expertise on planned giving has benefitted foundations across the CSU and around the country. And under Craig's leadership, HSU and the Advancement Foundation have received national attention for helping to develop and following principles of socially responsible investing.

Frank Whitlatch, Associate Vice President for Marketing & Communications, will be serving as the Interim Vice President for University Advancement during this transitional period starting in May. Frank's 11 years at Humboldt State includes two years as interim vice president, and he brings a deep understanding of the University to this role. I am grateful for his willingness to serve in this capacity.

Please join me in thanking Craig for his dedication to HSU's mission, for his commitment to students, and for his integrity in ensuring that funds have been spent in the ways specified by donors. His work to develop HSU's new campaign to help support students will be an enduring legacy to further student success at Humboldt State. Craig and his wife Liz have been important members of our community, and they will be greatly missed.

Sincerely yours,

Lisa A. Rossbacher, Ph.D.
President
