Women’s Basketball Advances to NCAA Regional Championships

ARCATA, Calif. – After defeating UC San Diego in dramatic fashion to clinch a spot in the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships, the Humboldt State women’s basketball team will return to SoCal to face top seed and regional host Azusa Pacific on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

A send off celebration will take place at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday in the parking lot behind the Kinesiology and Athletics Building and adjacent to the Marine Wildlife Care Center. HSU community and Lumberjack fans are invited to join the Marching Lumberjacks to wish the team luck before traveling to Azusa.

The Cougars are the No. 1 seed and the Lumberjacks are the No. 8 seed in the West Region Tournament matchups revealed Sunday evening. Azusa Pacific went 27-4 overall, but was defeated by Point Loma in the Pacific West Conference Tournament.

A late trey by Jovanah Arrington propelled the Green and Gold to a 76-75 victory Saturday night. HSU women’s basketball is advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
