The California Division of Occupational Safety, Cal/OSHA, requires all employers to have an effective injury and illness prevention program per the California Code of Regulations, Title 8, Section 3203. The office of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) has developed the campus Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and will be responsible for working directly with departments to implement the IIP in a phased approach. This written plan, which will be available for viewing on the Environmental Health & Safety web site, provides the means to tie existing safety program elements together into a cohesive and integrated program. EH&S has written the departmental model plan in a fill-in-the-blanks format to ease the impact. EH&S will be conducting training sessions with department contacts to ensure effective and practical implementation.

It is the responsibility of all deans and department chairpersons and managers to ensure that their respective IIP Plans are implemented in a timely manner following the initial orientation by EH&S. Many elements of the IIP, such as hazard identification and correction, are currently in place and, therefore, implementation of the departmental plans will require nominal effort on the part of staff and faculty. In most academic departments such as English, Math, etc., implementation will be very easy.

Implementation will begin in Administrative Affairs followed by the College of Natural Resources and Sciences, College of Professional Studies, College of Arts Humanities & Social Sciences and finally, Student Affairs. Kevin Creed, Director of EH&S, will contact you prior to scheduling the implementation training sessions.
