State College employees are allowed time off for the hours 12:00 noon until 3:00 on Good Friday, March 27, 1970, in accordance with Government Code Section 6700 (l).
Consultation has been completed with respect to filling on a regular basis the staff dean positions in this office which have been occupied on an acting basis since September, 1969. Those consulted regarding evaluation of the acting deans included the School Deans, the Division Chairman, and other administrative staff personnel who use the services of the staff deans.
Upon the recommendation of the Marine Laboratory Steering Committee, together with the concurrence of the Deans of the Schools of Natural Resources and Science, Dr. Gary Brusca has been assigned to the position of Director of the Marine Laboratory.
President Siemens has asked me to relay to all interested faculty members the dates which have been established for submitting applications for sabbatical leaves for the academic year 1971-72.
Pursuant to my memorandum of October 12, 1971, the school deans and division chairman have reported their nominations for appointment to membership on this committee. The committee membership follows:
1. Representatives of School of Behavioral and Social Sciences other than education
From time to time students visit my office to express concern about the status of their academic records. A particular area of concern is often the significance and possible consequences of an "incomplete". I have referred these students to the official statements and policies on the subject.
The accompanying proposal which is intended to facilitate the earning of credit by examination has been reviewed by the Council of Academic Deans.
In accord with earlier recommendations of the Academic Senate and the President's Commission on the Future of Humboldt State College, as well as the recommendation of the College Curriculum Committee, Dr. Richard Day was assigned a part-time position as Director of the Innovative Cluster Program for 1970-71.
The college faces a critical situation with respect to operating expense fund balances for the current fiscal year. Several major budget accounts have been exceeded as a result of factors beyond our immediate control. For example, the particularly harsh weather encountered during the past year has resulted in many thousands of dollars in additional utility expenses.
This memorandum will serve to amend Administrative Memorandum VP 71-4 of May 25, 1971 which restricted further operating expenseexpenditures for the current fiscal year. The amendment relates to instructional operating expense expenditures only.
