The Office for Academic Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Fred W. Hanes as College Librarian effective September 1, 1967. Mr. Hanes is eminently qualified to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Mrs.

As you know, the President of this institution approved an experimental examination schedule for the 1967-68 academic year.

It is a reminder that Jewish students will be observing September 23 and 24 (Rosh Hashana), and October 2 (Yom Kippur) as traditional religious holidays. No student should be penalized for absence from class during these three days.
We have made several attempts to secure approval for interested staff who wish to greet President Nixon and former President Johnson tomorrow afternoon to be absent from their assignments for this purpose. Unfortunately, we have not as yet received authorization.
State College employees are allowed time off for the hours 12:00 noon until 3:00 on Good Friday, March 27, 1970, in accordance with Government Code Section 6700 (l).
Consultation has been completed with respect to filling on a regular basis the staff dean positions in this office which have been occupied on an acting basis since September, 1969. Those consulted regarding evaluation of the acting deans included the School Deans, the Division Chairman, and other administrative staff personnel who use the services of the staff deans.
Upon the recommendation of the Marine Laboratory Steering Committee, together with the concurrence of the Deans of the Schools of Natural Resources and Science, Dr. Gary Brusca has been assigned to the position of Director of the Marine Laboratory.
President Siemens has asked me to relay to all interested faculty members the dates which have been established for submitting applications for sabbatical leaves for the academic year 1971-72.
