Mid-Semester Evaluations and Retention, Tenure and Promotion
WHEREAS, Voluntary mid-semester evaluations have been instituted on this campus as a means for faculty members to receive review and recommendations from outside observers regarding their teaching methods in order to improve classroom performance; and
WHEREAS, Mid-semester evaluations were not intended nor are they appropriate for inclusion in the formal evaluation of teaching effectiveness for retention, tenure and promotion; therefore, be it
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of Humboldt State University recommend that the mid-semester evaluator may, at the request of the candidate, provide written verification of participation in the mid-semester evaluation program for inclusion in the candidate's Working Personnel Action File as evidence of professional development, but under no circumstances shall any documentation provided by the evaluator include details of the evaluation process itself, or of its conclusion/recommendations; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of Humboldt State University recommend that this policy become effective in the 2000-2001 academic year.
