Back in Budapest in 1944, Kiss rented four apartments where he allowed Jews to hide, at great risk to his personal safety if he was caught. He also worked closely with a Jewish lawyer who had been part of the former slave labor battalion, stealing and forging identity papers for Jews in hiding.

Barna Kiss died in January1985 in Queens, New York at the age of seventy-two.
