Being that Humboldt County is rural, traveling here takes time.  The local airport is only serviced by only one airline: United Airlines.  The drive from San Francisco or Sacramento takes anywhere between 5-6hours.

Arcata has some very distinct weather because of its location on the North Coast. You can expect up to 40-50 inches of rainfall per year on the average. High temperatures commonly average in the 50s and low 60s with moderate fog most of the year. Winter high temperatures average in the low 40s to mid-50s, with lows in the mid-30s to lower 40s. In the summer, high temperatures usually peak at the mid-70s. Yet just a few miles inland the temperatures may be up to 50 degrees warmer in the summer and fall.
