How long have you been at HSU?

I joined HSU on June 2012.

Where did you get your degree(s)?

Bachelor of Engineering in Instrumentation and Control– Bhavnagar University, India

MBA - Master of Business Administration, specialize in Public Administration 

 

 

What do you like most about HSU?

HSU values the diversity, and is a very welcoming and friendly campus.

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?

I am still exploring and finding the things to do in Humboldt. So far, I like to spend time at beach and walk in Arcata!  I know – I need hobbies

 

Joselle Wagner - Area Coordinator

How long have you been at HSU?

I have been at HSU since January of 2012.

Where did you get your degree(s)?

My B.A. is in Intercultural Studies from Biola Univeristy.
My M.S. Ed. is in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

What do you like most about HSU?

I love working with our student leaders. They are a lot of fun! I also really like working with the Housing & Residence Life staff.

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?

My favorite thing to do in Humboldt is to go to Trinidad with a cup of coffee and walk down to the beach to collect sea grass.

 

Nicki Viso - RLC for the Canyon

 

How long have you been at HSU?

I started in June of 2014.

Where did you get your degree(s)?

I received a B.B.A. in Marketing at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater  and a M.Ed. in Counseling and Human Resource Development with a specialization in Student Affairs at South Dakota State University.  

What do you like most about HSU?

It feels like a community here, a place I can call home. This is really important to me since I live so far away from family. I'm also inspired by our students. Many of them are incredibly passionate about our environment, creating a more equitable society, and bettering the campus. Their energy keeps me going.

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?

I enjoy going to the local festivals and events: farmer's market, flea markets, Arts Alive!, 4th of July Jubilee, races through the 6 rivers running club, roller derby, and theatre shows in Van Duzer. I also enjoy eating out at all of the local restaurants. I haven't been to one that I didn't like yet.

Sasha Wallace - RLC for College Creek and Campus Apartments

How long have you been at HSU?

I came to HSU in September of 2013.

Where did you get your degree(s)?

I received a B.A. in English with an emphasis in Career Writing, and a M.A. in Education with a specialization in Counseling and Student Personnel from San Jose State University.

What do you like most about HSU?

What I like most about HSU is that everyday when I look out of my window, I'm surrounded by natural beauty.

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?

I haven't been here very long, but I just like to find a space to sit and take everything in.  Trinidad Beach is amazing, and Aracta Scoop has the best ice cream that I've ever tasted in my life. 

Justin Zagorski - RLC of The Hill

How long have you been at HSU?

This 2014-2015 academic year is the beginning of my time at Humboldt State University, and I'm new to area as well. 

Where did you get your degree(s)?

In 2008, I traveled to Alaska to attain my Bachelor of Arts in Outdoor Studies where I became a climbing guide. I soon found myself back in the classroom in Seattle, Washington, where I attained my Master of Arts in Student Development Administration in 2014.

What do you like most about HSU?

I love living with a surplus of recreational opportunities at my doorstep. I can be biking, running, doing parkour, surfing, or climbing on any given day. Just walking across our beautiful campus brightens my day, even when its foggy. A sense of belonging is also easy to find here. I'm surrounded by super friendly people who consistently say Hi to me when we pass one another. Most importantly, HSU is a place where I feel welcome. One where I can just show up as me.

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?

My partner and I try to spend as much time recreating outdoors as we can. Our weekends frequently result in an adventure of some sort. I also really enjoy indulging in local, vegan-friendly restaurants.

How long have you been at HSU?

I have been at HSU and in California since June 2015.

Where did you get your degree(s)?

I received my Bachelor's in Political Science and Africana Studies and my Masters in American Studies with a concentration in Sociology at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

What do you like most about HSU?

I really love the student interaction here! Everyone is so friendly and will say hi! I have always been a social butterfly so it feels good when the greeting is reciprocated.

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?

My favorite thing to do in Humboldt is hang out with my friends and go to the plaza or try a new place to eat. There are so many restaurants and I love having the opportunity to explore the food options.

 

Amy Foust - RLC for Education and Engagement

How long have you been at HSU?

I have been at HSU since January of 2016.

Where did you get your degree(s)?

B.A. - English & Writing - Southern Oregon University

M.S. - College Student Affairs, emphasis in Conflict Analysis and Resolution - Nova Southeastern University

What do you like most about HSU?

What I like most about HSU is the small community feel. Both on campus and off , you feel at home here and like the community is changed for the better because you're in it.

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?

There are so many things I like to do in Humboldt! So far this inludes going to the beach, watching unique movies at the Arcata Theatre Lounge, strolling around the Saturday morning Farmer's Market, and sampling all of the local restaurants. So good.

 

Mallory Garcia - RLC for Programming and Leadership

How long have you been at HSU?

I attended HSU from 2002-2006 and from 2013-2016. During that time I was involved in the Residence Halls as a Living Group Advisor for two years and an Assistant Coordinator for one. I have recently returned to HSU, receiving a post baccalaureate in Geology. Since 2015 I have been in volved in the Residence Halls acting as a Community Advocate and now a Residence Life Coordinator of Leadership and Programming.

B.A. Studio Art, 2006, Humboldt State University

B.S. Geology, 2016, Humboldt State University

What do you like most about HSU?

I would have to say the students, as well as staff and faculty here on campus. Because Humboldt State is a smaller University, the students, staff, and faculty are able to form close ties with one another. This becomes a great tool to succeed as a student and individual throughout your time at HSU and in the future.

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?

My absolute favorite thing to do in Humbodlt is backpack. There are so many amazing places to explore, that I still find areas and activities I haven't experienced.

 

Michael Estrada - Administrative Support Assistant

How long have you been at HSU?

I started at HSU as a frehman in 2010 and worked for ResLife for three of my years here. I graduated in May 2014 and moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area for a year before coming back as an Administrative Support Assistant in September 2015.

 

Where did you get your degree(s)?

I received my BA in English - Writing Practices here at HSU.

 

What do you like most about HSU?

I met some of my best friends here. I love the smaller campus and the close proximity to town.

 

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?


I love taking my dog to the beach as well as hiking up to Strawberry Rock. Trinidad is typically my go-to spot.

How long have you been at HSU?

Since late August.  This is my first time living outside Ohio!

Where did you get your degree(s)?

B.A. - Architectural History - Ohio University

M.A. - Geography - Ohio University

Ph.D. - Kent State University

What do you like most about HSU?

Everyone is so friendly!  People are willing to to go out of their way to offer assistance, and smiling while they do it!

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?

Right now, exploring.  I'm getting to know my new community and surroundings by being a serious tourist. Detour on the way to the grocery store?  No problem. Accidental trip to the ocean?  I'm in!

John Johnson - Staff in Residence

How long have you been at HSU?

I started working at HSU in February of 2015.

 

Where did you get your degree(s)?

I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Women's Studies from Pennsylvania State University. I obtained a Master of Arts degree in Educational Psychology from Ball State University in Indiana and earned my Ph.D in Social Psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 2011.

 

What do you like most about HSU?

Without a doubt my favorite thing about HSU is the students. But of all campuses where I have studied or worked, HSU seems to have a higher concentration of people who are kind, genuine, and just generally cool human beings!

 

Your favorite thing to do in Humboldt?

I know a lot of folks appreciate the outdoors and I'll admit the natural surroundings in Humboldt are majestic and awe-inspiring. But I think my favorite thing to do in Humboldt is to connect with all the new and interesting people on and off campus and build community.
