Raza Educational Empowerment Day (REED)

Previously known as Latino Empowerment Day

Raza Educational Empowerment Day brings awareness to the opportunities that higher education has to offer and the importance of embracing cultural and historical awareness. Students learn how to access important resources and gain valuable information about college, financial aid, admission requirements, and much more! Students also have the opportunity to shadow and talk to college students to learn about their experiences and successes.

From MEChA: "We want this empowerment day to highlight the past struggles of other LatinX individuals whose great achievements made way for this new leading generation of young talent by sharing contemporary works of knowledge and advice gained from and through higher education. We hope a wide scope of interest will spark the power of Resistance through Existence as others before, and that our dedication to our respective passions will bridge students to their own passion and immediate futures."

American Indian College Motivation Day (AICMD)

American Indian College Motivation Day is held each Fall at Humboldt State University. Approximately 400 high school students from 30 schools throughout Northern California attend the event. In all, 30 tribal affiliations are represented. One of the highlights of the program is the opportunity for Instant Admission for senior attendees who have applied to HSU, offered by the Enrollment Management staff. Workshops are led by United Indian Health Services, Tribal affiliates, UC college representatives, and HSU personnel. The day also includes a College Fair, in which students are exposed to college representatives, several community organizations, and HSU programs. Check back in September for more details.

I've Been Admitted to College (IBAC)

IBAC events are a collaboration between the Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE) and HSU’s Student Academic Services Outreach Program (SASOP) to bring 8th grade students from Humboldt and Del Norte counties to Humboldt State University to experience a day on campus. Our 8th grade guests attend a campus tour, receive information about college eligibility, courses of study, and financial aid, and hear from current HSU students about what it’s like to be in college. The 8th grades round out their experience by participating in an engaging and interactive College Workshop hosted by HSU professors and personnel.

7th Graders also participate in an IBAC event hosted by College of the Redwoods.
