Field Seminar

During all field experience internship placements, students are concurrently enrolled in field seminar coursework that will guide and support their internship experience.

Field seminar is a place where students, together with their Faculty Liaison, process experiences in the field in relationship to social work concepts. Seminar discussions and activities are designed to integrate theory with practice and to support students to gain information about community resources. Seminar courses allow faculty to monitor and support student progress in the agency. Seminar activities encourage students to process the experiences in the field on practical, conceptual, and ethical levels. Students are also encouraged to support one another's personal-professional growth in understanding the use of self. Seminar is a space where students have the opportunity to cultivate and demonstrate their knowledge, values, and skills in developing partnerships to benefit people and environmental conditions.

On-campus seminar students meet on a weekly basis. Distributed Learning students will participate in weekly seminar activities, which may include discussion forums, presentations and live sessions.

In addition to the Field Experience seminars, students who are participating in CalSWEC Stipend Programs are also required to attend additional seminar courses
