SORRY, THE FIELD TRIP IS FULL.
This field trip will provide participants a broad overview of fire management in the Jemez Mountains.
We will see the effects of the 156,000 ac Las Conchas Fire of 2011, and hear from fire managers some of their experiences in suppressing the largest wildfire in New Mexico history.
Participants will also discover the role collaboration plays in implementing the SW Jemez Restoration Strategy, a 210,000 ac. effort to reduce the ongoing risk of large crownfires across a cross-jurisdictional landscape.
This is an all-day field trip through a landscape with stunning vistas and strong cultural contrasts, ranging from ancient Pueblo Indian archeological sites at Bandelier to the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Lunch is included.
