Schedule A Zero-Waste Event

The Green Event Certification recognizes individuals and organizations that have demonstrated environmental responsibility while planning for and implementing their events.  The Zero Waste Coordinator is available to help you with all aspects of Green/Zero-Waste Event planning. Schedule a pre-event audit with our Zero Waste Coordinator early on in your event planning - we're here to help you take your event to the maximum green level!

To obtain certification, just follow these three easy steps:

1. Contact the WRRAP Zero Waste Coordinator who will help you with all the steps to making your event a Green Event. They will coordinate with you the pre-event delivery and post-event pick-up of compost bins and other waste diversion bins at your event, as well as coordinate staff to divert waste during your event.

2. Click on the Green Event Certificate below and download a copy of the Green Event Checklist.  Complete the checklist.

3. Email a copy of the checklist and any required documentation towrrap@humboldt.edu at least 2 weeks before the day of your event.

*Once your application has been approved, you will receive a certification to display on event advertisements and at your event.

Welcome to Zero-Waste Events

Defining Zero Waste

Zero Waste is the idea that we can reduce, reuse, recycle and redesign our consumer culture to a degree that minimizes and eliminates the waste we send to the landfill. This is an ideal that emerges when we acknowledge that we live on a finite planet made of renewable and nonrenewable resources. When these resources are used at a pace that is faster than the earth and create them then we enter the dilemma of the unsustainable society with declining resources. By redesigning for zero waste then we are able to ensure that the materials we take from the earth continue to be used efficiently without waste and excess burden on the environment.

Zero Waste at HSU

Working to reduce waste sent to the landfill from HSU, the zero waste director works directly with event hosts, the zero waste director advises organizations on how they can move their event toward zero waste. The zero waste director can also certify your event using the green event certification checklist. You may be surprised how easy it is to reduce the waste your event sends to the landfill. Please see our green event certification to see how you can start reducing today. You may also email wrrap@humboldt.edu. to begin working with the zero waste director to make your event zero waste.
