Strategies to Better Your Grades

There are concrete strategies you can use to earn better grades in your classes. Regardless of what your study habits have been in the past, new classes present new challenges and you need to use new strategies to overcome them.

  • Attend all classes, come prepared to class, and complete assignments on time. 
  • Balance major classes with GE & elective classes.
  • Exercise the 2:1 ratio for studying. Study at least two hours for every one hour that you are in class.
  • Meet with professors during their office hours.
  • Maintain regular contact with your advisor.
  • Add academic and class deadlines in your planner, Google calendar or Semester-on-a-page
  • Participate in weekly study groups and/or supplemental instruction (SI) classes.
  • Take advantage of free or low cost tutoring services provided by the Learning Center.
  • Take advantage of Academic Tools and Skillshops to learn new skills
  • Take advantage of CANVAS course tools such as tracking assignments, due dates, reminders and estimating your grades in classes.
