Anthropology Programs

Anthropology is a holistic science dedicated to the study of human biological and cultural diversity and evolution. Anthropologists integrate methods and theories from across the sciences, arts, and humanities to gain a deep understanding of how people live in and respond to their environments. It includes four intersecting fields: archaeology, biological anthropology, sociocultural anthropology, and linguistic anthropology (read more about the subfields...)

Anthropology Facilities

The Anthropology Department at Cal Poly Humboldt has multiple labs and facilities across the subfields. Here are some highlights:

Anthropology Subfields

Anthropology is a holistic science dedicated to the study of human biological and cultural diversity and evolution. It seeks to understand how people live in and respond to their environments.

Anthropologists integrate methods and theories from across the sciences, arts, and humanities to study the many intriguing facets of humanity across space and time – from the earliest fossil humans to the more recent archaeological record and present-day cultures.

Anthropology includes intersecting subfields:

BSS BuildingThe Anthropology Department is located in the Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS) Building, which was constructed in 2007, and meets the LEED gold rating by the U.S. Green Building Council. Facilities include state of the art lecture halls, ‘smart’ media classrooms, and custom laboratories.

Biological Anthropology

Mona monkey

Biological anthropology investigates human and nonhuman primate biology and evolution by studying biology (especially the skeleton), evolutionary theory, inheritance, the fossil record, and living primates. It looks at interrelationships between behavior, ecology, and biology.

Archaeology
