Moodle is Humboldt State University's Learning Management System (LMS). Moodle makes it easy for faculty to post course information, conduct class discussions, create assignments, take attendance, use Clicker technology, and hold and grade exams online.

You do not need to know how to write code or use style sheets to work with Moodle - just add your content using the online forms. Files created in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other programs can be uploaded directly into the system.

Log into myHumboldt using your HSU username and password, then click the Moodle icon in the upper right-hand corner above your name; if you have problems getting access to Moodle, these login tips should help.

Support and training is available by callling (707) 826-3633 or visiting the Moodle office in Library 315. Classes are scheduled frequently, and one-on-one sessions are available in person or online using the Moodle Team Viewer.

Moodle  provides advanced learning content development modules, including

  • Questionnaire. Similar to a survey, Questionnaires enable instructors to create a wide range of questions to get student feedback, for example on a course or activities. The goals of the Questionnaire module are quite different from those of the Moodle Lesson or Quiz modules; it is used to gather data, not to test or assess the student.
  • Glossary. Glossaries can be created by the instructor alone or collaboratively, be course-specific or global, and can be optionally autolinked to course materials.
  • Forums The Forum module is where students and teachers can exchange ideas by posting comments. There are four basic forum types, and forum posts can be graded by the teacher or other students. A forum can contribute significantly to successful communication and community building in an online environment.
  • Lesson. The Lesson module enables faculty to automatically customize course materials for individual students.The choice the student makes after completing each Lesson page determines where they go next.

The Lesson module in particular is designed to support Dr. Richard Mayer's practice principle of multimedia enhanced learning, as described in the book eLearning and the Science of Instruction.
