TNS - Secure Wireless

Description

Implement secure (encrypted) access for both University-owned and personally-owned wireless devices on the HSU campus to prevent ID spoofing and unauthorized access to personal data. This process is required as secure mobile network connectivity is key infrastructure for a more mobile workforce, and supports overall campus sustainability efforts.

Status Update

6/1/12: Service is now live and being supported. Widescale deployment is not planned. Targeted users for this service will be set up by ITCs as time and resources permit.

5/17/12: ClearPass QuickConnect purchase has been completed. Post ITC training, Secure Wireless will be deployed by ITCs as time permits. ITS are being informed, and a directed Staff & Faculty campus announcement will be issued after the start of the Fall 2012 Semester. The service is now ready to be deployed, but waiting for the right timing.

5/1/12: Documentation is now complete. ITC training has been scheduled for late May with a go-live date of June 1st. The procurement process for Aruba Networks' ClearPass QuickConnect solution has started, but this tool will only be used within the help desk as needed to ensure timely support.

4/17/12: Back-end server redundancy has been completed and tested.

4/13/12: Documentation is being reviewed by the ITS Project office. Consideration for xpressConnect has stopped, as the cost to procure the solution was out of financial reach. The team is now considering other options including Aruba Networks' ClearPass, which is similar to xpressConnect. This change is likely to delay the project by up to two months.

3/21/12: Documentation is still underway and expected to be completed by 4/4/12. The campus is also evaluating purchase of the xpressConnect support tool from Cloudpath Networks to aid in supporting the initial rollout. The project is still running about 20-30 days behind schedule due to ongoing day-to-day operations and other projects that have taken resources away from the project.

2/28/12: All technical tasks except back-end server diversity have been completed. Testing is being undertaken inside ITS, and documentation is underway. Project completion date has been pushed out to mid-late April due to problems with the existing production wireless infrastructure and our aging network core that have taken resources away from the project.

2/3/12: Kick off meeting scheduled.

12/21/11: Project approved and scheduled.
