HSU's networking and communications infrastructure is maintained and supported by Telecommunications & Network Services (TNS). The department's core networking responsibilities revolve around the wired and wireless networks on campus.
The installation of cabling and network equipment follows predetermined standards including the CSU Chancellor's office's TIPS Standards and the BICSI standards. TNS provides additional Standards and Documentation to general contractors related to telecommunications and networking projects.
Only pre-approved ethernet cables may be used on campus. If your department requires additional cables, please complete and submit an Ethernet Cable Request form.
In order for you to access the HSU wired network, your departmental Key Advisor must arrange with TNS for a convenient network jack to be activated, for your computer to be registered with the network, and for the internal connection fee to be approved.
You can connect to the HSU wireless network yourself, without assistance from technical staff.
Your ITC must first complete and submitt a DHCP request form and receive confirmation that your computer is registered with the network. Once your network jack has been activated and the connection fee approved, your computer should be online as soon as the ethernet cable is connected.
If you experience problems with your network connection, please contact your departmental ITC. They will act as the central point of contact for TNS until the problem is resolved.
