Highway 299 Closed Due to Wildfire

August 31, 2017

As of this morning (8/31), Highway 299 has been closed approximately 36.5 miles east of the Humboldt/Trinity county line due to the Helena Fire. There is currently no estimation for when it will be open again. 36 is also closed intermittenly due to construction, greatly limiting travel options heading east.

Before heading out this Labor Day weekend, it's absolutely essential you check CalTrans highway conditions before you leave at this link  or by calling 1-800.427.7623.

Also, remember to carry an emergency kit with you in case you do get stuck while out on the road. You can read more about building a travel emergency kit here

Have a safe three-day weekend!
