HSU Student-Athletes Give Back During National School Lunch Week

October 26, 2018

ARCATA, Calif. – Dozens of Humboldt State student-athletes visited area schools last week as they participated in National School Lunch Week.

The annual event recognizes the 30 million children serviced by the National School Lunch Program every day. Lumberjack student-athletes helped serve school lunches, spent time playing and speaking to area children during their visit.

"It was fun to spend time with the kids for a little bit," said Jovannah Arrington, a guard for the HSU women's basketball team. "Their excitement rubbed off on us and made it a fun and worthwhile experience."

Student-athletes represented the Green and Gold at four area schools, and the experience was fun for all involved.

"The kids were great," said Michel-Ange Siaba, a men's track & field student-athlete. "The joy and laughter and the way they responded to us made me realize that there's a lot more to doing our sport than simply competing. I am glad we were able to touch so many kids, one the kids told me that it was the best recesses he's ever had."
