Service to Community - Making Connections through OLLI at HSU in 2019

March 12, 2019

OLLI at HSU is collecting course proposals for Summer 2019 now through April 5th. Teaching for OLLI offers the opportunity to share your expertise and make direct connections with learners beyond the HSU campus. OLLI at HSU is a vibrant lifelong learning community with over 1300 members in our region.

OLLI  members are aged 50 and better and bring a wide variety of experience and interest to every class. HSU faculty who have taught an OLLI class tend to return to teach for OLLI again. It is fun to have eager learners to recharge your favorite lessons.

OLLI members take classes to learn for learning's sake. And teaching an OLLI class offers a terrific venue to share new research, promote a recent book or article or make connections with community members who may be interested in participating in future focus groups or department events. OLLI classes do not have assessments or homework.

The summer program for OLLI is called Destination Humboldt.  Each week OLLI celebrates Humboldt County culture with classes designed to spotlight one of four themes: History, Arts, Science & Environment, and Industry. All summer classes meet one time in a 2 ½ hour format. OLLI at HSU collects course fees and shares all revenue 50/50 with individual course instructors.  OLLI Summer courses are priced at $70 for the general public and $35 for OLLI members and are held on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays.  Classes meet from either 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. or 2-4:30 p.m.
