Spring 2019 – GI 2025 Student Employment Announcement

February 5, 2019

Dear HSU Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that $436,000 in GI 2025 funding has been allocated to directly support HSU student employment. In Fall 2018, HSU's Student Success Alliance (SSA) recommended use of GI 2025 funding to create new and/or expanded opportunities for on-campus student employment. This recommendation aligns with the GI 2025 pillar "Financial Support." In response to a university-wide call for proposals issued by Academic Affairs, area divisions collectively submitted ninety-one proposals.

After thoroughly reviewing and evaluating the proposals, Academic Affairs is happy to report that eighty-five proposals have been approved, and will create 271 new employment opportunities for our students. Students will be hired to work directly with faculty on research and scholarship, undergo professional development opportunities, gain new experiences in event planning and peer mentoring, and have opportunities to work more hours in current programs because of expanded services and hours of operation.

All student employment opportunities supported with GI 2025 funding will be advertised on the campus Handshake student career recruitment platform to ensure the employment application process is open to all HSU students. All recipients of this GI2025 funding for student employment are required to provide an assessment report to the SSA in Fall 2019.

Marketing and Communications will issue a press release later this week to share the exciting news, and reiterate the message that our institution is committed to supporting our students. Student employment provides critical support for increasing student success by providing a sense of financial security while improving learning, career readiness, and retention.

Thank you again for your thoughtful and innovative proposals. And, as always, thank you for all you do to support student success.

Sincerely,

Dr. Alex Enyedi

Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs
